As I continue my education/research on Artars, I have yet another question. What shutters will a 16 1/2 or 19 in Artar fit into. I know they were offered in an Acme No 4. I have seen some newer Schneider versions in a copal 3. Will the old versions that fit the Acme shutter screw into a copal 3? Are any modifications (shims) needed?

Thanks

I had Tim at http://www.lensn2shutter.com/
install my 45cm RD Artar into a copal 3 shutter. I definitely recommend his work. Jon

You might want to consider a behind the lens shutter. This requires an adapter which can be made by any competent machinist on a lathe which can cut both English and metric threads. The adapters needed to put lens cells into a shutter are a very different and more expensive requirement. Because of their narrow view, Artars are particularly well suited to mounting in front of a shutter, though you need a big one.

I'm also wanting to move a red-dot 19" artar into a shutter and was wondering if there was any direct fit solution.

No, there isn't a direct fit solution to be found.

Like Jon, I also had my 19" RDA mounted into a Copal 3 by Tim... but it was a lot of work for him and it certainly wasn't the least expensive method to go.

But, having said that, it sure is nice to have the lens in a modern shutter!

I believe he has a picture of my 19" on his website:
