Some time ago I got a xenotar 135 enlarging lens. Later I got what was supposed to be a linhof select 135. I noticed when comparing the two that the linhof rear capsule was larger and thought interesting but that was all. Tonight I was testing lenses and after running a couple of 150mms, another xenotar and a fuji I mounted the 135 xenotar expecting to have to move forward to make the target the same size.
WHAT the heck! The image was larger from the 135 linhof xenotar than from the 150mm lenses. I took out the rear capsule and replaced it with the one from the enlarging xenotar and things were as they should be. So the linhof 135 is a 135 front capsule with something else in the rear. The question is what is it.
First clue it looks like it is in the 175mm range or longer with this element. I'm pretty sure it is a schneider because it look like the other schneider lenses. It measures 44mm in diameter, 25mm high and the cylinder from the outside edge to where it becomes conical is 15mm. It is made of brass and painted black and quite heavy, heavier than the xenotar 135 rear capsule. In addition the xenotar has two different size cylinders of about 46 then 44mm before the threads whereas this mystery capsule has just one cylinder.
It does focus but I didn't test it as I don't want to move my test bench right now.
Any ideas?
thanks,
Mike
