I just ordered some ink for my 4000. The Epson's site said this about the 4000 ink carts:

Overview

Epson UltraChrome™ 7 color ink system combines the long lasting print life of pigment inks, with the wide color gamut traditionally found only with dye inks.

Works With

* Epson Stylus Pro 4000 Print Engine
* Epson Stylus Pro 4000 Professional Edition
* Epson Stylus Pro 4800
* Epson Stylus Pro 4800 Professional Edition

Which implies what? That they are now putting K3 inks in the 4000 carts. How else would a cart work for both the 4000 and 4800?

Kirk,

The K3 are an 8-ink system, so I don't see it as an issue of K3 being compatible with the 4000, but probably that the K2 inks are in come sense compatible with the 4800.

Or, it could be an error in the website listings.

I don't think the carts are physically compatible, with the exception of the MK cartridge, which will work in the 4000/4400/4800/9600.
