Robert Hall Photography and Cowtown Photographic Workshops are pleased to announce:

San Antonio Missions
A Guided Photographic Workshop
Labor Day Weekend with Robert Hall and Lee Carmichael

August 31st, September 1, 2, 3, 2007

The Spanish missions in Texas are stellar examples of Spanish American architecture. Originally based in the Italian Renaissance tradition, adding elements of the Spanish and Italian Baroque, and finally modified by native techniques and ornamentation as found in Southern Mexico and in Central and South America, these structures are magnificent examples of a new style born from a tradition limited by local materials and workmen for whom the only compensation was improvisation.

The well-known missions featured in this workshop were built of stone and lime mortar, adobe and timber, and adobe bricks. While ornamentation was limited by the lack of skilled artisans, the missions compensated in the elegant simplicity of their arches, rooflines, and belfry façades. One notable exception to the simple presentation of the missions is the carving of the portal and sacristy window (Rose Window) at San José y San Miguel de Aguayo Mission.

Missions Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de Acuña, San José y San Miguel de Aguayo, San Juan Capistrano, and San Francisco de la Espada have been described as "rhythmically symmetrical" and "pictorially beautiful." They are a photographer's paradise.

Experience the thrill of these historic buildings and beautiful San Antonio, Texas with Robert Hall and Lee Carmichael. Experienced photographers with extensive experience with the missions of San Antonio, they will provide participants with assistance in aspects of lighting, exposure, and scene selection.

Participants will develop further technical expertise with their film or digital camera (any format). Hall and Carmichael will also assist participants in the use of color, black and white, or infrared film.

The cost of the workshop will be $500.00 per participant. A deposit of $200 will be needed to hold ones place in the group. Group is limited to 10 participants. A prospectus and tentative travel plan will be provided upon request.
