If anybody else happens to be shooting in the canyon next week- look for an arca shooter wearing a dorky multicolored ski hat, most likely hanging out at locations along the east rim drive, and stop by and say hi. I was hoping for some snow or other assorted inclement events but weather.com doesnt look like it is going to cooperate- at least the scenery will be better than Maryland in the winter!

Eric, now how can the Grand Canyon be better than Maryland in the winter? Maryland has tons of subjects to photograph! Grin.

Stay warm. Don't slip. I usually don't wear a dorky hat when using my Arca, only wear them while skiing.

If your looking for a little side trip try Coal Mine Canyon. Find Tuba City on the map, just north of the east part of the Grand Canyon. There is a road going from it heading a little south east going toward Hotevilla and Orabi. 17 miles down the road there is an opening in the fench and you will set a windmill on the left. Turn in and go toward the windmill keeping a liitle to the left. The canyon is just past the windmill. It's part of the painted desert and is really a nice little find. It's actually part of the national park service as the old coal mine is an EPA site. Where the entrance once was is now covered by a tarp and enclosed by a fence. So there is no problem with the locals. I have been there several times without incidence. The head of the canyon is multiclored limestone while the rest is kind of a lime green. Oh, and at the intersection in Tuba City there is a little burger joint on the south west side that has great food.
