View Full Version : Timer for remote release/self portrait
Is there a timer that can be used to set off a standard remote release.
I see people doing in old movies, so there must be way.

Years ago I used an Autoknips that attached to a cable release. That company (and several others) also made models that mount on a cable release socket.

If an air release will fit against the lens board, how 'bout one of those?

This fellow sells timers that fit the cable release of most shutter/cameras.

He also sells outside of ebay if you prefer to deal directly. I've bought a lot of stuff from him over the last 4 years and every time I've had great service and speedy delivery.

An air-release visible in the photo clearly states that it is a self-portrait.

Yup, just like when the name of the camera in the picture (usually an Avatar) reads sdrawkcab! :D

Look for a "self-timer" at your photo dealer or other used equipment source. Various brands have been available over the years. One with an adjustable throw is handy for LF shutters. I've also used air-bulb releases, which come with long (10'-30' sor so) tubes. The bulb can be squeezed with a hand behind the back, or even a foot, so they don't need to show in the image. Both solutions are faily inexpensive.
kodak made the one i have. it's a little black drum with silver hardware and it's about the size of a circus peanut. you control the amount of air that comes out which varies the time. i picked it up on ebay for 5 bucks
