Bought an unidentified lens labelled: Ilex Anastigmat Series "C" f6.3 on eBay for a whopping $10. That includes shipping. It's in great shape, but I haven't yet had time to try to focus it to see what it's all about. If it forms an image circle larger than medium format, I'll be pleased with the $10 price. Photos attched. Any ideas on what this is? The board it's mounted on is about 2" square for reference.

Thanks!

Seth Broder has the answer (again): http://www.cameraeccentric.com/html/info/ilexc/p9.html

If that lens board is 2" across, the lens itself is a little under 1" across. Multiply that by 6.3 and you find that it's likely to be a 6" lens or thereabouts. Could be a 5", or a 6½" though - I haven't measured anywhere near exactly.

I believe, but can not confirm at this moment, that you have a 6" enlarging lens. There is no basic reason not to use it on the camera as it may do an excellent job. I frequently use some of my old enlarging lenses as taking lenses just for the heck of it. Most are especially good for closeups.

Damn, I thought I had done a pretty thorough search of the web before asking this question.... Thanks for the info! I'm pretty happy with it for the price. I'll remeasure when I get home to confirm the focal length.

Thanks!
