Hello,

Could 4x5 film hangers be used to hold the negative in place while tray developing..thus avoiding possible scratches . Maybe they hangars could be stacked on their sides and multiple negs could be developed at one time. Has anyone tried this?

Thanks Gerry

Ron,,

Thanks very much for the link, it was most interesting and an avenue I am going to pursue. Does anyone have any info on these infared goggles...how much, where they can be purchased and the good the bad and the ugly.

Thanks again Gerry

Another option that gives similar results is a slosher. A slosher is an insert that fits into a tray to hold film - each sheet is in an individual compartment in the slosher, and is developed emulsion-side up. Since the emulsion side of the film doesn't touch anything other than processing chemicals - ever - there is no risk of scratching.

Various manufacturers offer commercial sloshers. I made mine from plexiglass. Actually have two - a six sheet model for use in 11x14" trays, and a two sheet model for 8x10" trays.

Gerry -- To keep the film submerged in the developer for either stand development or solarizing, I use a film hanger with the arms removed. When solariziing, the film is backed with another sheet of fully exposed and developed film to eliminate reflections from the hanger.

Hello,

Could anyone tell me where I could find picture of a slosher described by Louie Powell.

Thanks Gerry

Hi guys...

I did my first tray development this week, albeit with 2 negs, not a huge stack. It all turned out great, very easy to do, no neg damage to speak of. It's really not that hard to do. The advice I got will make it all the easier next time...and it was fun!

Here are the results (these were just quick 4x5 snapshots to try it out...nuthin' special):

Here is a thread on APUG on sloshers that includes pictures of three different sloshers.
