Have a NOS Wollensak 210mm WF barrel lens on the way to me and have been told it can be mounted in a Copal 1 or Alphax shutter. I have someone that can provide the shutter, but mounting and working with the f/# scales (engraving) seems like it will raise price of lens/shutter combination to more than I would like to pay. Is there much mystery to mounting a lens in a shutter? What about the iris part of the lens; is that used or do you use the shutter's? I bought this primarily to use with a Speed Graphic, but the coverage is such that it would be nice to use with my Wehman 8x10. The shutter add seemed logical.

Thanks for any insights.

Hi Stew,

It would be best just to use it on the Speed Graphic or with a Packard.

Most but not all Wollensak barrel cells can direct mount into the right Alphax shutter, but with wide angles cell spacing and iris placement are CRITICAL.

Front mounted to a Ilex #4 might cause vignetteing for 8x10

Any remounting to a shutter will cost $$$ and need a f/stop scale

It would be best just to use it on the Speed Graphic or with a Packard.

Good luck with it.
