I have a Wehman 8x10 on the way and am trying to make sure it is adequately supported. Currently have three tripods and heads and am looking for the best combination to travel with. First I have a Bogen 3246, which I consider fairly heavy duty. I use a 3063 micro-fluid pan head with it. Then a Bogen 3221 with a 410 geared head. Lastly I bought a Benro 228 CF tripod that is the clone of a Gitzo 1228, which has worked well with their clone of an Arca Swis B-2 ball mount for my Toyo 45AX. While the latter seems light for the 8.7# Wehman (probably pushing 10-11# with lens, etc), any thoughts on the former? I will primarily be shooting landscape stuff outdoors and while I don't plan on hiking really long distances, would like to be able to trek a few miles.

Thanks

Stew

Your Bogen 3221 is fine but you will (probably) want to consider another head. I can show you a number of heads and tripods when we get together.

Cheers!

I use a wooden tripod, a Berhlbach on my Wehman. It's adequate but I need to buy a ball head to make it a little more flexible.

I have used my Wehman with a Gitzo 1228, with good success. In the long term I ended up acquiring a slightly larger and heavier Gitzo 1325, which is a better match. But when weight and/or compactness is crucial, I do not hesitate to use the 1228.

Can't comment on ball heads, being a 3-way man...
