On the remote chance that any of you might be in the region and/or interested to travel to this, I'd like to announce a fotocommunity user meeting (http://www.fotocommunity.de/pc/calendar/display/5417) I am organizing with the theme "Large format photography in Thuringia in autumn". It's on October 14th at 10:00 in Eisenach, Germany.
The fotocommunity is a flickr kind of website for photo sharing that has a large membership in Germany.
For those who don't read German so well, here's a rough translation of the event's announcement from the link above:

Interested participants shouls already be using a large format camera, this is not to be an introductory workshop for DSLR users. This may sound like bragging about film size, but the reason is that there is quite a learning curve with large format, plus the time needed for one exposure is so different that DSLR users would be left standing around bored most of the time.
(This has been modified by me in the comments to the announcement because a lot of medium format and DSLR users showed interest. Didn't want to be a format nazi, now did I?)
There are no charges levied, everyone brings his own film.
We want to meet at 10:00 hours in front of the Bach-Haus in Eisenach and will hike to the Drachenschlucht (about 3 km, 2 miles). There we will photograph amongst cliffs, waterfalls and autumn foliage. Then we will hike up to the Wartburg (about 6 km, 4 miles), architecture and history of the location will inspire us. The day is to end in a pub in Eisenach.

Your interest would be very much appreciated. Say so if I can give you any further information.

Good idea, Steve, but it's too late to change the date now. Besides, I'm visiting a friend living near Cologne on the Photokina weekend and we're both going there. Will you be there? Any chance to meet?

I arrive on Monday and leave the following Sunday. I am staying at the Hotel Wilkommen in Bonn

I am considering starting an online version of View Camera for subscribers outside the US. Basically the same content but more info about equipment that is avail in Europe and Asia but not necessarily in the US. Also, more images from photogs outside the US.

The sub price will be close to the US price for a printed magazine.

I live near Cologne too. Would it make sense to organize an evening-get-together for some people on this list during Photokina?

Then let me set it up!
All interested please send me an email with proposed date. I can come any day during Photokina. Cologne is a nice place to spend an evening. Many place to sit, eat, drink and chat about photography.

Thur, Fri or Sat of that week

I may be hanging out with people like Jeff Wheeler from Quality Camera, Keith Canham from KB Canham cameras, etc. Would you like me to invite them?

Christoph,
what Eisenach do you mean? I looked for it on Mappy and found Eisenach at postal codes 99817 and 54298.

Thanks for some more precise info. I could make it if it is Eisenach near Trier.

Vielen Dank!

Sorry Geert, it isn't the Eisenach near Trier, it's the one in Thuringia, postal code 99817. The one where J.S. Bach was born and Martin Luther translated the Bible into German while in custody on the Wartburg. It's knee-deep into history there. I wasn't even aware there was a Eisenach near Trier.

Hello all

Dirk sent an email, but would like to know who else is coming to thsi meeting. I can't get a good location in Cologne without knowing how many are coming. Consequently, one more count please.
