I will be really glad to hear some opinions about the Sinaron WS 210 5.6. Do this lens needs a centre filter when used on 8x10 ?
Many thanks and best whishes to all, especially to Steve Simmons for his accident.

Rodenstock Apo-Sironar (W) / Sinaron-WS series are plasmat designs slightly modified to cover an unusually wide field (80 degrees) with optimal correction at 1:10, good correction at infinity, and excellent fall-off performance. The "W" series is different from the wide-angle designs that cover more than 100 degrees and do show substantial fall-off in many applications. Accordingly, it's not a surprise that Rodenstock does not recommend a center filter for these lenses.

I have recently been using the 210 Apo-Sironar on 5x12, which requires a slightly larger image circle than does 8x10. A quick check of my log book shows that for all the negatives I've made with that lens so far, I've stopped way down - mostly f/45. But between those negatives and what I'm seeing on the ground glass, so far there isn't even the slightest hint that it would need a center filter. My experience with the other two Rodenstock "W" series lenses (150 and 300) at wider apertures such as f/22 is the same.

My experience with the 150 W shooting it on 5x7 is th same as Oren's.

What this lens might actually be worth? I can buy one for 700 $ but it seems to me a little too much.

For a clean 210 W with shutter in good working order, $700 is a very good price.

Oh goodness, that's a GREAT deal. Snap it up before someone else does. Typical selling price for this lens is in the $1250 - $1350 range. There was one on eBay a couple days ago that ended without any bids The starting bid was $1955 with a Buy it Now price of $1975. Since it didn't sell, the asking price was obviously too high, but it gives you some indication what a great buy it would be at $700.

If you decide not to buy it pleaes pass on the information and I will. BTW, I paid more than that for my 150 W which is one of my most used lens for 5x7.

Sorry, Ted, I'm italian, my english is not so good and I do not understand what BTW means. Can you also explain to me what some others acronyms I frequently find on this forums (IHMO ???....) means? Speaking about the lens I'm considering this: the lenses I actually own are: 240 5.6 sinaron SE, 360 6.8 symmar S, 480 8.4 symmar S. I wish to trade the 240 and the 360 for the sinaron 210 WS 5.6 and a sinaron 300 SE 5.6, no balance due from me. What do you think about? Especially considering I shot almost always 8 x 10 landscape? What do you think about the comparison between 210 WS and 240 SE and 360 symmar S and 300 SE ?

Almost forgot: all the lenses I'm speaking about are mint conditions with shutter.
Many thanks and best wishes.

BTW = By the way
IMHO = In my humble opinion

IMHO, I think you'd be getting a steal of a trade by giving up your 240mm Sinaron SE and 360mm Symmar S for a 210mm Sinaron WS and a 300mm Sinaron SE. I think you'd be trading up in value by perhaps $500 or more. It would also give you a wider lens on the short end and a nicely spaced 3 lens set for 8x10.

Daniele, the 210 WS + 300 SE have substantially greater value on the resale market than the 240 SE + 360 Symmar-S, so in that sense you'd be coming out way ahead.

But the real question is which focal lengths are the best match to your photographic needs. Do you use the 240 and the 360 very much? Is there something about them that feels wrong or doesn't work for you? Have you been wanting something wider, or have you felt that the gap between 240 and 360 is too big?

Unless you want to be spending your time trying to make money by trading equipment, I would judge the offer based on whether it meets some specific photographic need that you feel strongly.

Oren, you're just right and I assure you my occupation is evrything but trying to buy and resell photographic equipments to make money. The question is: I prefer wider lenses, sadly I do not have so much time to experiment, 210 WS and 300 SE are a lot smaller than 240 and 360, the price, as you say, is very good, so I think I will trade my lenses for the other two. Thank you very much for your advices.
