IRTAL 4 50MMf/0.7 ...

I have come into posisson of an Odd lens, and Im stumped as to its use and What it is..

On the lens it has " DES No. 459.02-1. the lens is Not Transparent.. It has what seems to be a Light Band pass filter coating.. much like a Solar filter..

It is a Large Heavy lens, over 2.1 pounds. Can anyone tell me more about it please?

A quick google search suggests that IRTAL was some sort of special macro "Germanium Infrared Lens":
