Hi all

I've had an Epson V700 for over 10 years, still working thankfully.

The filmholders are in ok shape, the 35mm and 120mm still work but some of the securing clips have snapped as is pretty common I think. The film area guide tore in no time, maybe 1-2 years of use. Now that betterscanning seem to not be operating -are there any alternatives I should look at? The auction site seems to have a few sellers offering third party replacements.

My second question is about cleaning the glass. About 5 years ago I put the scanner and lots of equipment into a storage facility for a couple of months, the conditions must not have been very dry as the scanner came out with a few spots of fungus under the glass. They haven't gotten worse, but they appear in scans and can add time to editing. Is the glass easily removed for cleaning, and what would you use? I was going to send the scanner for service but the guy who used to do them in Ireland seems to be no longer working. Tips much appreciated. I am not brilliant at fixing things so I'm hoping the cleaning is relatively easily done.

Thanks

Damian

Holders for V800 are compatible. Fewer film strips per scan than with V700, but maybe the price to pay for better planeity. See e.g. this seller
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?item=176793838764&rt=nc&_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l170197&_ssn=scandig
Or cheaper from China:

ANR glass for negative holders. I use anti-glare glass from framing shop, cut to size; only between light source and film.

Cleaning fog on the underside of the glass. Speaking from my V700 experience. At the corners of the top plate, four screws are hidden by plastic plugs. Remove the plus, unscrew, and lift being watchful of assembly "harpoons" near the front side. Hopefully the mirror(s) of the optical train have no haze/fog. Be very careful not to spill liquid near the white calibration strip. In fact, do not spray liquid on the glass, spray on the cloth before cleaning the glass.

Thanks Bernard that's very helpful.

I found a 3d model for the film area guide so I might ask a friend to print it for me.

cheers
