I've got a cambo monorail that I'd love to find a way to transport completely set up (minus pod). I'm considering constructing a box with cut foam to hold it in ready possition and create a strap system to allow it to be carried short distances. still not sure if it'll be worth the headache to save the 3 mins it'd take to set it up but I'd still have to make a deconstruct case. I know it sounds semi-nonsensical but that short amount of time could be substantial in what I'm toying around in.

when I wanted to build a case for my 7 x 17, sandy king recommended a luggaage case. you know the one's with wheels and handle. I got one from walmart and with foam it worked perfectly. appx $35. Might work if you can find a size for your need.

I bought a big Stanley tool box at Lowes. It is 24" wide 14" deep and 17" tall. It has wheels and a retractable handle. Paid about $50 for it. Plenty of room inside for my Camulet C-1 plus other accessories. I bought foam for the bottom and sides.

For my C1 I had a foam lined custom white abs case made to my dimensions by Melmat in Hunington Beach, Calif. http://www.melmat.com Their custom line is called the Space Case, it was 150.00, and is very well made. They will make a case to any dimension you need, and turn around time was about a week and a half including shipping.

Those cases look great Chris! Looks like I am not the only one running around with a C1!

They really are great cases John.I've got years of experience with Anvil ATA flight cases from my days as a touring keyboard player, and the Melmat space case is right up there in quality.I got the case not so much to protect the camera, but to protect me and the inside of my jeep from the camera :)I love my C1 and see no reason to ever get another 8x10 unless its the lighter green one, but since getting a Roleez sports caddy http://www.roleez.com/, the extra weight of the black model is really not an issue anymore.

I have the "lighter" Green model. Thanks, you have given me some more ideas. The wheels on the Stanley toolbox are OK but not good on rough surfaces.

I might have worked on some of your keyboard equipment... Worked for ARP Instruments as a keyboard tech in the 70's then with Rhodes on the Chroma and then, Kurzweil Music. I got out of the music business and haven't played in 10 years.

Thanks for the information and nice to meet you.

Well I was a Moog and Oberheim man myself, 2 mini's and a polymoog and an OBX along with a Rhodes 73 stage, Hammond B3/Leslie 900.Then came digital and all that gutsy beautiful analog stuff had to go.Still shoot myself in the foot for not keeping it all.Anyway I put my C1 in its Melmat case on the Roleez cart, then my Ries tripod, the big one, A100-2, in a big generic tripod bag I got from B&H, and lay it sideways on top of the Melmat case, then strap it down with the included Roleeze straps. There is plenty more room on the Roleeze cart to lash more things onto if I wish, but I put my Gnass gear large lens case which holds 2 lenses on boards, a Minolta spotmeter F, cable releases, hurricane blower, and a sears level finder, into a medium size day pack, along with six 8x10 film holders, windbreaker, lunch, etc..The cart rolls over anything.Goes around So.Cal. beach sand like a dream.Once on location the melmat case makes a nice little table to set the lenses on, eat lunch, sit on etc.Its now a joy using the heavy rig away from the jeep.

Picture of your (loaded) case would be nice. How much does the empty case weight? What are the dimensions of your case?

I'm considering of building my own case. I have a case for my 4x5 monorail but it's dimensions are not optimal for my system. 150USD is very acceptable for custom made case but I'm concerned about weight.

I recently bought Pelican 1660 case. It comes with foam inside. Lifetime quarantee if you break it. It has wheels. My all gear is there, 8x10 Dorf, Filters, Lens - everything.
Great stuff, anyway you just buy it once, so make a good decission. I hate when I buy something and I have to replace it and costs more. So some things I buy only once and it is the lowest cost you can imagine. They are going on Ebay for 230,- US + 40 dollars shipping.

It is well worth it. Navy and army uses these cases. They are waterproof.

I use a fairly large "roughtote" (22gal rubbermaid "Roughneck") for my 810 SC (SX? never did get the exact model figured out), and I do break the camera down. Doesn't take long to set it up, and I can carry everything for the camera including a couple of lenses. The only thing that won't fit is the full length rail. Good enough for the back of the pickup if necessary. I wrap everything in cheap walmart bath towels to keep it from banging together. You wouldn't ship it, but its nearly big enough to have a bath in if you just can't get away from a good spot. I have another toolbag which carries all of the common stuff for 4x5 and 8x10 if i'm truckin'.
