Hello everyone

I recently got this Tele Xenar 360/5.5 with a compound 3 shutter. It is in a rather unsightly condition. Took it as an opportunity to take a compound shutter apart again and get it running again without taking everything apart.

It even has some rust on the shutter blades and the iris. I was able to remove most of it, but there are still traces of it

I cleaned the pressure cylinder and the shutter speeds sound reasonable.

It didn't have any caps so I improvised some from cardboard and tape

When I was dismantling it, I came across this piece of spring. (It was in the area above the cocking mechanism) It has a strange, pointed end and it is not clear to me whether it is broken off or whether it was inserted somewhere.

Can any of you identify the spring and tell me where it goes?
(The shutter still works :-) )

Another question: how/by what means can rust be completely removed without destroying the shutter blades?

Thank you for your help

Better to show also a picture of the shutter as a whole. On the left side (looking from the front) there should be 2 or 3 hairline springs

If al the settings (M, B, T) of your shutter work correctly, then the spring was not a part of this shutter.

Hello Ron

thank you very much for the very valuable links. Also nice the video of “Mikeno” which I had completely forgotten. He has made so many instructions....

I have opened the shutter again and photographed it (see pictures)
When I compare with the photos (which I found via your links) I can't find a spring that resembles the piece I found in the case. The mechanism works as far as I can tell with my limited knowledge.

What I notice is that after winding the shutter, the lever with the pin (red arrow) over which the piston is moved, or the curved arm (green arrow), moves very slowly to the end position or sometimes gets stuck. I can feel a slight “scratching” when I move the pin with my finger. As if the piston does not have a smooth surface....

Hello Notorius
That would be great! I'm curious to see if we could actually find this part. What is the character of the lens? Do you need it in 4x5 or 5x7 format? For portraits?
