Hi all,

As a longtime user of imacon scanner (using now a precision III) I want to change for eversmart / iqsmart scanner to be able to scan bigger film size (8x10)

I have found two options:
- A creo-scitex eversmart pro II, running on OS X with oxygen 2.6
- An iqsmart 2 bought by the current owner in CPS in UK with mac computer and oxygen 2.6.3

Both are great machine, the iqsmart2 goes further in resolution (4300dpi max vs 3150dpi for the pro II)

Of course, the budget is not the same for the 2 models, but my plan is to sell my precision to get the eversmart or iqsmart.

What will be your picks? pro / cons? (scanning speed, noise...)

thanks in advance for your advices and happy new 2025!

I owned an Imacon scanner at the same time I have an Creo Eversmart Supreme scanner..

I like both scanners, I would give an edge to the CES over Imacon in sharpness. But the operation of the Imacon is much more user friendly, I am having my CES overhauled and will put a new mini mac on it and
investigate its software more for future use but I think it is a really decent scanner.
BTW I have access to a Phase One Scanner system which delivers wonderful scans extremely fast but looking at both scans I would not rate one better than the other Phase vs Creo.
The Creo is slow but you can gang up many on the glass and walk away which is a good feature if you are not into heavy production.

Eversmart has a better lens. That would be my choice if I had to make one.
Pro II can scan into a proprietary RAW format with all the advantages of having the freedom of re-processing scans as many times as requires without the necessity to ever rescan again. One of the use cases would be creation of a new scanner input color profile some time after the scans have been made using some older or even "vanilla" color profile. Another one - just mount your film on the glass , scan into the RAW (a one-button-click approach)and worry about actual setting at the time when the RAW file must be converted into a regular TIFF for editing and printing. BTW, due to ancient user interface of oXYgen and EversmartScan setting up White points with any sort of precision at the time of non-RAW scanning has been an extremely involving task. Scanning into RAW solves it completely because when scanning into RAW the software automatically adjusts the exposure to avoid any highlights clipping.
Unless you intend to scan a lot of 135 film and print it large you are unlikely to see any difference in resolution. Eversmart even may have an edge over iQSmart in perceived resolution due to sharper edges and less flare in the scans.
One of the things that I did not like about Eversmart was a somewhat heavy Magenta color cast when scanning Fujifilm positive film and no profiling could make that cast completely disappear. It did require some color balancing in PS. The iQSmart did not have that flaw. Although I did not do a scientific research on "why", I think it was due to different light sources used by each.

Thanks Bob and Serguey for your input / feedback

I'm gonna take the pro II. First for the price of the unit :-)
also, he's supplied (along with a G5 in Os X)with a mac G4 with oxygen in OS 9, which enables head setting. And yes the DT option is a real advantage.
I'm scanning 80% 120 film in 6x7, 3175dpi is enough. After it's 4x5 and 8x10

In two weeks he's home
