Auction over, so thought safe to post (I'm not affiliated with seller in any way). Interesting Leitz 6" f/2.8 aerial lens likely for large format. Obviously military. Quite a speedster -- similar to Xenotar? Of course, quite a price too.

Not a large format lens. It was made for cameras (US, KE28; UK, Vinten F95) that shoot 6x6 on 70 mm film. I have one; it might, just might, cover 6x7. Very short back focus, according to the Elcan catalog ~ 1.6". It is 7 elements in 4 groups, a telephoto according to the catalog not a double Gauss like the Xenotar. Cataloged weight 1.7 pounds. S/n of the form 138-xxxx. 138 identifies the design.

Anyone want mine? Ex-F95, in good condition. Reasonable offers accepted.

There's also a 6"/2.8 Elcan that covers 4.5" x 4.5". Design #180, cataloged weight 6.8 pounds. This one is a double Gauss type.

I don' know about your Elcan Dan, but I tried one out a few years ago for 6x7 (and no, it didn't cover) and was surprised at its poor performance. Contrast was ok, but resolution was poor.

Not surprising, Jason. I have another ex-F95 Elcan that I can use and have tried out, 1.75"/2.8. It doesn't quite cover 6x7 and its not that sharp either. I much prefer my 47/5.6 SA, its sharper and covers 2x3.
