I am working on a project to put an aperture and shutter behind an 8.5 in. diameter, focal length 144 in. single element lens. This is for a room sized camera obscura.

Does anyone have a shutter we can buy for affordably?

Best,

Have you checked Home Depot? ;)

Seriously, this is Packard territory; there are Packard shutters (still available new) (http://www.packardshutter.com) with clear diameters up to eight inches. Air or electric operated, B or one "instant" speed (1/25 in smaller sizes, larger ones are probably slower).

Oooops i some how left off the fact that i am looking for a a shutter with about a 2 in. opening.

The lens is mounted in a 12 in long box and i will mount the shutter behind the lens. I will make the lens board because it has to fit in the box which is 8.5 in. H by 8.5 in. W.

I think even a copal 3 maybe even a 2 will work. Can't afford a new one.

Ken,

A Packard will do it for you. I think I've got a nice one somewhere around here---I'll go look---if I recall correctly its about 6" square and has a 2-1/4" dia opening.

I found two of them. An electric with a 2" diameter hole and a manual with a 2-1/2" hole.
