I’ve been patiently, at least I think so, waiting for my favorite film stocks to get back on the shelves, for well over a year at this point. But by god it seems Kodak genuinely doesn’t want people to buy their film! Ektar has been special order from B&H for over a year now. Requiring a single consumer to drop $30,000+ on a hundred boxes of Ektar in 8x10.

Ektachrome has been hit and miss on stocking because there’s just not enough other color film options out there in the format. Portra 160 is just about it the last few times I’ve checked

Honestly, I don’t know what the hell fuji is doing. Cutting film stocks left and right, opening new boxing factories in china but if you want Provia you’re SOL.

I know this is me basically ranting but this is verging on ridiculous. There’s obviously a demand for these stocks in 8x10. Maybe not as much as 135 or 120 but Jesus Kodak, nothing…for over a year? I’m trying to get to supplies together for a fall trip and this is just tempting me to call it off. I won’t even get started on film basically doubling since I started shooting in 2019. It’s just disheartening to have the income, and the ability to shoot 8x10 especially while only in my 20s, and I just can’t because who knows what. I’m on the list for ektacrhrome 100 and ektar 100 with Keith Canham, but not knowing when that’s going to happen is nerve racking as the October trip comes up fast.

1996 a NIKON COOLPIX 100 was $1000. I waited, 3 years and price was $400

I bought

It was was wonderful, nobody knew what it was, no screen

Shoot pics right in a face

At same time I took a Darkroom class

I shot all assignments with the toy and real 35mm

My mentor asked me if DIGI was...

I like both, I shoot both

Soon I will Show and Tell my 2 NEW cameras

I mean, very new or NOS

I have waited 9 months

for film years ago

make a backup plan

Well, Freestyle has 8x10 Ektachrome (https://www.freestylephoto.com//1069822-Kodak-Ektachrome-E100D-100-ISO-8x10-10-Sheets?srsltid=AfmBOooua-0zNTBd6NlyBjDRGYUzz17BVBfiQMA4nf8I6LmlSm94aYUw_mM) in stock, so perhaps you need to look further afield than B&H (who these days doesn't always have what I'm looking for).
If I were a color 8x10 user, I would get used to the fact that Portra is likely the only semi-reliable option going forward.

Pick between Portra 160 and 400 on B&H or adorama and E100 on freestyle and buy what you need for your trip.

Stock up is the answer to having always some, replenish as you can.

Relax, by the time you reach my age and have worked in 8x10 as long as I have you'll have some hard core rant material! Good luck with the hunt.

P.S. The pleasure will far surpass the trouble in the long run.

Quantity cuts of 8X10 Ektar are going to be either feast or famine. Either wait till B&H does their volume order or get onto Keith Canham's wait list. I've bought 8x10 films from both, but now have the luxury to just walk to my freezer when I need a box of Ektar or TMax.

Portra 160 is Portra 160. Portra 400 is Portra 400. Ektar is distinctly Ektar. You need what you need. And of course, Ektachrome 100 is exactly that too, and nothing else.
Stock up when you have the opportunity, because these kinds of periodic shortages are inevitable.

Ektar, Porta, and Ektachrome are coated on the PET base which if quite superior to the triacetate Provia uses - PET is stiffer, lays flatter in the holder, and is far more dimensionally stable over time.

My own "backup plan" if it comes to that : 4X5.

I know it's not film, but I have the same issue with the MCP310 from Adox.

Their provider closed (Maco maybe?). On Adox's website, they said they bringing their paper to their own shop. But since then, no more news.
I wrote to Adox for news. They told me they won't restart the production of the MCC & MCP because there was not enough demand for these papers.

And I LOVED those papers. It was suited to the way I worked!

I tried Foma, but the result is not as good as the Adox. It is close to what I have with the Multigrade IV from Ilford which is dull to my point of view.

I still love the format more than anything. It brings me peace of mind, even when I’m cursing at the weather

Fotoimpex has 8x10 Ektar in-stock, if you don't mind shipping from Europe. I have no affiliation with them, just trying to help. 8x10 Ektar (https://www.fotoimpex.com/films/kodak-ektar-100-203x254-cm-8x10-inch-10-sheets-203x254-cm-8x10-inch-10-sheets.html)
