Forgive my American ignorance, but are North American cigarette lighter power adapters for electronic gizmos universal worldwide? I am renting a car in Italy next week and wondering if I should bring my chargers or if it is a wasted effort. Thank you.

As long as the batteries are the same, expect the lighter adapters to be the same too.

Oh by the way - the current term is "auxiliary power outlet", not "cigarette lighter"...

Hi Frank- I'm in the UK, and my wife is an American. She promises that the cigarette lighter socket in our car looks just like the ones back in the USA, so your gear should fit. Enjoy your trip.

"... the current term is 'auxiliary power outlet', not 'cigarette lighter'..."Ha! At first, I got a chuckle out of that. But... you're right! They don't supply the lighter element in new cars anymore -- just the outlet.
