Hello folks, I have run into a bunch of old Kodak stock and would like to find some information on it. It appears that the can is named panatomic x and also designates an emulsion number of 3412, but there is paper on the can that says 3414. Can anyone enlighten me as to what 3414 is? Google is of no help whatsoever.
Curiously waiting...

This is all I know:

3414 = High Definition Aerial 3414 (ESTAR Thin Base), B/W

Thank you! From that link I was able to Google their wording and got a little more info. Seems it was quite popular with the military and NASA, back in the day.
It also appears to be very similar to Panatomic x.
I have yet to open the can so who knows what's actually in there.
I'll pull some, cut it, shoot it with various iso's and see what it looks like. It might be ruined, fogged, or a rock wrapped in a sock .
It could also be 1000' of 5" Panatomic x in perfect condition

How wide is the roll? That's quite a find! Sharp as a razor blade when handling it. Beware!

Indeed. Supposedly it's 1000' x 5"
I'll know when I get into it. From the same stash I grabbed 2 500' x 5" Technical Pan rolls, original seals intact. They should be fine ;+)
I'm very excited... Tech Pan used to be my favorite film by far. Haven't shot it since the early 80s. I'll be shooting it all through my Pacemaker Speed Graphic and various lenses.

Unfortunately, my whole project is a bit on hold at the moment due to cancer treatment, but I should be developing by May.
Already have the gear, chems, and about 20 portraits lined up.

3414 is a high-contrast, very high resolution aerial film meant for very high-altitude work (think U-2 and SR-71). It has little in common with the old 35mm Panatomic-X. (As you probably know, Kodak was fond of re-using trade names; see "Polymax").
IIRC, it was discontinued and replaced in the '90s because it contained small amounts of cadmium (which won't matter to an end user).
I'm sure that it would be possible to get 'normal' photographic contrast from it, but some testing will be necessary. Best of luck- with both your medical issues and your film!
