For use on my Speed Graphic 4x5. I need to buy a lens board, and have the option of standard (flat) or about 30mm extension “nose” on it. Thoughts?

I use a long Top Hat on 2X3 Linhof Rail

Gotcha. I may as well get the Top hat. Might give me marginal swing movement as well as full coverage. (I’m modding the locking plates underneath the front standard)

300mm Tele-Xenar is a focal length I haven't seen often. Good Luck with it :)

A 300mm telephoto lens will (by definition) have a bellows draw shorter than 300mm when focused at infinity. So a standard board should work.
A top-hat board would make swing and tilt movements even more complicated- but a Speed has few of those, so would be ok as well. That will let you focus closer too, never a bad idea.

Thank you. I’m looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I’ve just started cancer treatment and won’t be back home for a while;(
I’ll post when I have something to post:)

If the information in this https://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/archive/index.php/t-150304.html discussion is correct, the lens' flange-focal distance as 170 mm. It should work perfectly well on a flat board on a 4x5 Speed Graphic

It does appear so. My uses will be landscape and portrait.

And best of luck with your treatment. Hospitals are no fun.

Indeed. Thank you. It’s such an annoyance when there’re LF images to be captured!
