I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has personally compared the two. Any major differences in spectral response? How about characteristic curves? What does CHS II excel at?
I heard Adox has reintroduced CHS II in roll film format. Trying to decide if it could replace FP4+ in 120 and sheet film for me or not. I usually have Rodinal, D23, D76 ready to go in the house. Xtol at times. Thank you in advance.

I have shot the Adox in 4x5.. In 4x5 I think it is just a smoother toned negative. compared to the Ilford, it's been awhile

I use both.
I routinely have to expose CHS 100 II at 40 ASA to get shadow detail where I want it, compared to FP4 which I rate at 80 ASA to get similar results. However, I feel that the Adox emulsion still delivers less shadow detail than FP4, and it appears in the final print that the Adox image has a more sudden transition to black with very little detail, whereas FP4 has a more even transition with plenty of shadow information.
I like both films a lot, but they deliver different results and have to be exposed/developed a bit differently. I don't do the whole sensitometry thing, but my impression is that the CHS 100 II renders a more punchy image, especially in the mid-tones, wheras FP4 is very balanced throughout the value scale. I also get the impression that CHS 100 II is an extended red film, which contributes to its look.

In this thread (https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/thoughts-on-adox-film-offer-as-opposed-to-their-chemistry-offer.201564/page-4) on Photrio Henning Serger said that CHS II offers higher resolution than FP4+ and has a different spectral sensitivity (darker reds).

Very useful insight thanks Paul
