A question for you alt process printers out there...

I have a fairly old bottle of Platinum Solution #3 that has only about 3ml of solution remaining. There is some sort of solid material on the bottom of the bottle as if something has come out of solution and attached itself to the bottom of the bottle. I've tried shaking it a bit which seems to have helped a little, but I can see that solids are still there. Can this be revived? Do I need to heat it slightly and stir? Maybe add a couple of drops of hot distilled water and stir? Or, is it simply no longer any good (and I thought this metals lasted forever?)

Thank you for any insight provided.

All of your approaches make sense. Given the cost of this I would give Bostick an Sullivan a call first…they are always helpful. I use solutions that are quite old without problems.

I would do as you say. You could filter as well. I've done that and the salt solutions worked fine afterwards but I guess they are more dilute. With filtering precious metal salt solutions I use syringe filters like these. Very little wastage.
