I share a doubt, I have an ilford 500, it is already several years old, it needs maintenance. And here come the doubts;
1 where I live there is no ilford service or anyone who knows about enlargers.
2 Alternative solution - (the head works) what works erratically is the power supply.
What do you recommend.
Go for the analyzer pro
Or heiland solution
Has anyone already had this solution?

If the power supply is failing, either get it fixed or replace it if you want to keep using the MG500 system.

The PSU controls the variation in lamp intensity for both channels, producing the various grades.

If it is the unit that controls, the power of the lamps and also other elements of the pad and head.

I believe your best option is to contact the person on the East Coast of the US that fixes these heads. On Ebay he is apogeebee and he has a refurbished post for $275 for this head. Look at the US posts for this offering. Even with shipping I feel that is your best option to get this head back into service. I sent a head to him to repair and he did a fabulous job and still working fine over 18 months of regular use. Don't get me wrong the Heliand is fabulous as I have one for my Durst 10x10 enlarger, but they are far more expensive.

Best

No problem, if the heiland is very nice and more expensive... almost 1,700 usd, I think finding the east coast man will be a challenge, and it is the best option. It is very nice head.
Thanks for sharing, I hope to solve it soon.

You might want to check first the mains socket in the PSU: it has a mains filter embedded, with a capacitor that tends to leak with age, and creates problems (sometimes even burn). Given its modest cost (less than 20 bucks), it could be worthwhile to open the lid on the side, and proceed to its replacement if you are able to handle the soldering of 3 wires ...

Good tip... the image is of the side cover.
Which one is it? Can you point it out?

It is blinded by the wires (see the highlighted zone) .. it is the mains socket itself. On the attached service manual - available on the support page of Ilford photo website https://www.ilfordphoto.com/technical-downloads/equipment-manuals/- I have circled the related part, on page 8242019242020

Here's the item https://www.mouser.fr/c/connectors/power-connectors/ac-power-entry-modules/?m=Schaffner&product=Inlets

The PSU is rated 600W, ie 2.7 a under 220V AC, so a 3A version should fly, there's also a 6A one that should work as well.

Hi! I went to the link but it asks for a lot of specifications ... which one exactly should I get?

I have a 500S PSU that conked out in the middle of an exposure and now won't turn on again...THANK YOU!
