View Full Version : UV filter for color enlarging
Hi,
A question regarding color printing and enlarging. Do you need a UV filter? It says it's recommended in my user manual for the CLS 66 for my Durst enlarger. The only UV filter I can think of is threaded for my 35.5mm lens. Otherwise I don't know if they make UV filters that can go in the head itself. Any help?

Arista includes a UV gel filter in their color printing set if you have a filter drawer, but you could also buy a sheet of Rosco UV gel and cut it down.
I'm not sure I'm seeing that anywhere. I think I'll just use a regular threaded filter.

There might be a dichroic UV filter already built into the colorhead light path. Check for that. I have never had a need for a supplementary one in any of the six color enlargers I've owned. But if you do go sheet style, make sure it's a polyester lighting "gel" like a Rosco, and decently spaced away from the hot lamps themselves, but not beneath the lens itself (poly gels are of poor optical quality). Otherwise, if you do want to test with one below the lens, use a decent round coated glass UV camera filter.
Sounds odd to me, but it might be cheaper to get a step up ring -- if you already have a UV filter.
