Hello everybody, a photographer from Switzerland here

I am insanely excited to start with large format photography!

I have already used the search function, but do not get anywhere.

I own the lens "Schneider Kreuznach Symmar-S 135 mm f/5.6". (Serial number: 12 190 592)
On the cap of the lens it says "SN 223/24 - 51ø".
Therefore, I assumed that adapter rings for this lens must have a diameter of 51 mm.
But both adapter rings with 51 mm ø and 52 mm ø - from different manufacturers - did not attach to the lens.
Therefore, I now assume that it should go with 50 mm ø.

My question is now: Does such an adapter ring exist at all or am I doing something wrong? I can't find one anywhere

My intention: to increase the ring of my lens to 58 mm so that I can attach a filter holder (for example the Firecrest 85mm Holder Kit by Formatt Hittech). From 58 mm ø I then have enough adapter rings to be able to react flexibly.

I hope you can help me and remain until then with kind regards

Lens caps can be confusing. Some are marked for what the filter thread of the lens should be, for example 49mm, while others are marked as to what the cap's width is, for example 51mm.

There is no uniform/universal method/standard at all -- but if it is an unusual size, such as 51mm, it is undoubtedly made for a smaller lens thread.

Schneider factory plastic caps are push-on, and fit the outside dimension of the lens barrel.
The filter threads are necessarily smaller by 3-4mm due to the thickness of the barrel.
The same situation exists with Kaiser push-on plastic lens caps.

I have a Symmar-S 5.6/135 sn 13 688 577. The front lens thread is 49mm.

This difference/discrepancy shows up with some spring-loaded lens caps as well. For example, many of Minolta's caps for 55mm threaded lenses are inscribed 57mm. Same with Phoenix, Seagull, and undoubtedly others.

True facts. Accessory threads (AKA fiklter thread or frobnt lens thread) is a very common 49mm so adapter ring should be easy to find, if you really want to do that.
The 51mm that you are seeing is the outside diameter of the lens mount and the size of the push-on lens cap.

Guys, thank you so much for all the answers! Really awesome community. I ordered a 49 mm adapter ring now and hope it will fit :)
