Bought myself a new book "Guy Bourdin". I have always admired his uber out-there mucho saturated fashion photography. Revolutionary at the time, in the fashion mags. So I'm wanting some inspiration and here it is.

An interesting book. I like how he introduced interesting manufactured lighting/shadows throughout each shot. A lot of lights and mirrors and intentional shadows I think. Very Cool. His short films are interesting too

Another excellent video explaining his unique fashion work;

And this one is excellent too!

Surreal. Provocative. Disturbing.

Anyone can use softboxes with success but complex hard lighting is something very different, where you need a lot of experience.
Kind of extinct style.
Thats why I like him too.
Thanks for sharing.

Daniel,

Your posts re-kindled my interest in Guy Bourdin --and some memories, too. His son Samuel used to stop-in at my studio in Shanghai from time to time a number of years ago --Lord, maybe 15 years ago! Guy Bourdin has some very complex sensitivities in my view, and I am taking a closer and more careful look at his work now. His short motion pictures are especially interesting to me and worth a good study. After coming across your posts I purchased a Steidl publication of his black and white work: Guy Bourdin -Untouched. Curiously, the publication reveals very few signs of his association with Man Ray (influence, I mean) or later work, although there are perhaps some hints. Thanks for the posts.

My friend has a similar book, but it's about ten, maybe fifteen years old. Overall, it's quite interesting, but it seems to contain his most famous works. I'd like to see something more rare. Maybe this new book has some lesser-known works by Bourdin?

I have never been able to write an essay so much that I liked it myself. So I found https://edubirdie.com/essay-writers-for-hire (https://edubirdie.com/essay-writers-for-hire) for this. I know that I have other talents.
