Hi everyone,

I would like to invest in a more coherent filter system for my b&w LF. Is Lee still the best option or are they some new kids on the block worth looking into ? I am most interest to keep thing as light and small as possible. I don't use many filters. Mostly a medium yellow or yellow/green, a center filter for my WA and a ND occasionally. I might take this opportunity to try a graduated filter too. Of course, non of my lenses have the same filter thread...

Thanks !

Vania

Use step rings to get all your lenses to a common size (I use 67mm). Then get all your filters in that size. Glass filter from B&W or Heliopan are best quality. Better, I think than resin or gels. If you only use black and white film, you really don’t need grads.

I have a couple magnetic filters

Made off shore

They screw a thin bit on and filters are magnetic

or the other way

Thanks Keith, this sounds perfect. I didn't know about step rings, any brand in particular?

I agree with Keith, but I use 77mm screw-in, glass filters -- a left-over from my RB67 days. I just have step-up rings to 77mm for each lens -- about $1 each -- and a few adjustable 77mm lens shades. Most of my filters are for B&W, but I have some color-graduated filters for use with a Cokin A filter adapter that fits the 77mm thread. Just make sure you settle on a filter size for the widest lens you might ever buy/use.

My largest lens has a 95mm filter thread so I went with 4" Cine filters and a SmallRig Mat Box instead of a compendium lens shade. The Mat Box with adapter rings for all my lenses was $100 from B&H. The Mat Box has a single barn door for adjustable sun shading.
