Rollei black magic #2
after 7years in the a frozen condition -after bring it to room temp it is a dry solid mass in the original container ???
What can I do or what can I add to make it fluid again ????

In apocalyptical total darkness.
The real reason can be that the liquid part have sublimated away.

What is that of which you write?
All Rollemagic 2 were essentially black finish.
By 'frozen' do you mean the shutter is stuck?
"original container" ? do you mean it's special carrying case?

hi joho
it's not supposed to be liquid it's supposed to be a gelatinous mass.
I haven't worked with BlackMagic but I've worked with Foma, 3 different Rockland Colloid and 3+ different emulsions I have made...
not sure you have ever used LSE but it's never a liquid until it is melted ...
Have you taken a plastic knife and in the darkroom under the red light cut a small piece off the block
and put it in a container you water jacket in hot water ?
if it melts, brush it on something small, and when dry put a coin on it and turn the lights on and develop it
you'll see how much contrast is left ... and if the emulsion is dead ...
if it is like a rock you might have to experiment to hydrate it ... but it might be a fool's errand ... it fogs from being heated and melted (that's why I said cut a piece off)
O.k. jnantz you got it correct !
I am totally clueless, I do remember it was as you say gel -- well not now it is a rock.
.. but it might be a fool's errand ...I will try. any way your words are helpful.
I will try some cheap hair gell see if it will soak-it up ???
thanks !!
Tin Can,
when I shake the jar that is what it sounds like.

once gelatin is dried out it can't be re-hydrated
hair gel won't matter.
... if it was me I'd take a sharp knife and slices pieces off of the block ( like a piece of cheese )
and then make prints on that.. it's photo paper /a dry plate but without the paper or glass .
good luck!
John
I wonder if coffee grinder in DARK
sprinkle the emulsion on flat level something

I did some review for the BLACKMAGIC RM2
it is old !!! and YES you have to grind it down !!! [spot on Tin Can !!]
Rollie has a special jar to heat it up ??!! I never knew it !! still looking in to it ....

this might help you decide what NOT to use to grind it

it is a website that contains a list of "reactive metals" .. I can't remember them all
you can find a different website by typing in "reactive elements on periodic table" in any search engine
here's a partial list: aluminum, cobalt, nickel, lead, tin, copper iron, zinc, chromium
these elements will cause problems if used them to crush your block to make granules, grains and dust
.. when I say cause problems I mean most likely fog/contaminate it ...
wear a mask, breathing in silver chloro bromide dust can't be good for your health.
after you grind and crush it are you going to suspend it in gelatin ?
looking forward to the pointillist / impressionist images!

I would have used a tin cheese grader !!!!!! well so much for that idea!!
jnantz thanks for the tip !!

yea. probably not the best solution...
but crushing the emulsion is the least of your problems ;)
