View Full Version : Cell Phone Images
I'm surprised there isn't a cell phone photo thread. It's always available so I do occasionally make photos with mine. Share your photographs made with any cell phone!

Wow,
Let's definitely change the name of the Forum. Why not call it The Cell Phone Images Forum ?
I guess we are from the initial goal.

The great thing about the cellphone camera is its with you most of the time and you can get an image quickly before the light changes. I got this one returning to the port in Miami at the end of a cruise about 5:30 in the morning.

Maybe this is cheating, but technically the Light L16 uses cell phone image sensors/modules. But 16 of them, for computational photography:

Bryan, how are you liking it?
It's pretty nice, a bit thicker than a cell phone but resolution is comparable to a good dslr and lens which is way bigger. It only really works with 35mm 50mm or 75mm equivalent focal lengths - wish I could get wider. Haven't tried yet but maybe stitching multiple images for wider shot will work. The short DOF effect with post processing looks convincing. I like it! I needed to take some marketing images today and it was perfect for that.
Peter De Smidt
1-Apr-2023, 18:01
Thanks, Bryan! I'd like to have a camera with me all the time that's better than my cellphone. If that went wider, I'd get one. As it is, I'll have to ponder....
It does go to 28mm, but loses resolution to the edges. Too bad the company abandoned making cameras, follow up models with increased field of view would have been nice. I'd rather 21/35/50 instead of the 75mm.
My new to me NIKON P1000 uses a cell phone sensor

Shoot. That's a bad deal. I rode my Ebike to my doctor today for routine visit. I complained about neck pain, she ordered X-rays. My cervical vertebrae are a mess, bone spurs etc.
On a better note, I've never rode a bike in such ferocious wind, directly into it on the way out. At my back coming home. Pedaling out in what is essentially open Prairie, into the wind I was Pedaling, plus had all 750W of assist, maybe maintained, 10 mph, coming back I was able to go 25mph with the electric alone, not full power at times, obviously level ground. I got hit by a couple gusts that pushed the bike sideways enough I had to steer into the wind. It was crazy.

I just got through sleeving some 120 negs shot last week and was thinking of making a proof sheet so I could show my wife what we got. Then it occured to me I have a tool in my pocket to do a quick digital proof.
I laid the sheet on my lightbox and shot it with my Iphone using my Camera+ app then took it into the Lightbox section of the app and reversed the curves, set the saturation to zero and sharpened it a bit. The curves needed to be depressed a bit to get a good black on the frames, grab shot of them below.

Ha yes - I've never been into sweets/candies but some of these...the sour ones...I might be a little addicted :)
I wish I were more knowledgeable regarding how to post images. The colours on these packages are really bold, and it came out quite realistic on the cell phone but when I post lower resolution/file size versions on here the attachments come out pretty lousy. Good enough to get the idea I guess.

I like it Michael - colours definitely come across. I have many quirks and flaws - just ask my wife, she'll happily organize them according to any criteria you want - but a sweet tooth isn't really one of them. Your pic reminded me of this one I took at the top of Mt Ventoux in Provence in the early 2000's. At the summit, in that barren place, was a stand selling these sweets. (not a cell phone pic - pre cell phone days - but 35mm Ektachrome VS).

Made with an iPhone 13, using Halide II to capture the RAW file. Subsequently processed in Silver Efex Pro with final edits in Lightroom Classic.
This location is extremely difficult to get to - I have to climb over large half-submerged trees and navigate deep pits in the river bottom. It is only accessible in late Summer when the river is at its lowest. I'd like to take the 5x7 Intrepid down there, but I'm not sure it can be done.

The Noto peninsula is really rural and you can often drive for 30 minutes or more without seeing another car on the road. Great if you like low key places. Beautiful scenery.

The Fujifilm Instax hybrid cameras - SQ10, SQ20, mini LiPlay and mini Evo - have 1/5" sensors. Based on specifications, the sensor Fuji has been using in these cameras may actually be the same one that's in my cellphone, a 2016-vintage LG K7. Anyway, below is from my SQ10.

Thank you for clarification
I love my 2 Instax Printers
but not fond of their current Instax Camera Printer combo
I shoot better DIGI and process with their great pocket printers on small iPad
Any iPhone is way better capture

Nothing serious - just fun.
It says at the top "Welcome to Nishiyama (West Mountain) Park. At the bottom in small-ish print it asks you to try to find the third person hiding in the picture. Look at the top of the wing of the bottom dragonfly and then straight to the left until you hit the foliage. Helps to zoom in. Cute.
