Never heard of an 80mm Ultragon but one has popped up recently on German ebay... Looks to be in a Technika 5x7 III board...

Anyone know if Arne Cröll is still around? Seems like something he might know about...

This site in Japanese would help.
Use Google translator or the browser translation function to translate to English.

It says 80mm was made as prototype.
Is there any serial number on the lens?
If so, it might be on the Thiele’s book.

The same thing is mentioned in Arne’s paper on p16.

Thanks mhayashi according to the site "Voigtlander Ultragon 4.5/80mm Lens #3535431 in Synchro Compur-P Shutter" The sn is on the outside of the front cell and kinda hard to read in the photos.

I contacted Makino who runs the website you suggested. He says he is interested in the lens and as luck has it he is selling his own Ultragon 60mm prototype lens... https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/x1083943543

2 Prototype Ultragons available at the same time wow...

Oh yes, he seems to like to do catch and release.
He likes to study rather than collect lenses.

I think that board is an older Tech II 4x5 board.

yeah I guess the lens/shutter is smaller than I first thought if it is a 4x5 board

Very interesting. I have saved Arne's document with the patent number for the Ultragon. I'm interested to see what this looks like, and see if I can analyse the patent.

The US Patent number for the 115mm Ultragon is 2,670,659 not 2,670,649 as per Arne's reference no.24.

Sadly I don't think Arne is around here anymore...

To Embdude,
Please see the jpg from a book. It seems the Ultragon 4.5/80mm is for the linhof, and 20 copies are made in the same batch.

p.s. The yellowish rear elememt shown in the ebay link probably indecates radioactive lens.

Biogen38,

Can you find out from that book how many Apo-Lanthar 30cm lenses were made? I saw the number around 226 quoted somewhere if I remember correctly. Just curious.

Thanks.

Good evening Hugo.
I quickly summed up the rows of the lens over the pages.
Apo lanthar 30cm f4.5 was made at least 549 numbers plus the unknown numbers but 50 at most for Linhof in August 1966.
So basically less than 599 numbers were made.
Quite rare.
