Does the light source simply replace the mixing box? I'm off-site and won't know till I get back. I assume I don't remove the halogen source.

Yes. Remove the Mixing Box and replace it with the one provided by Heiland.
If it doesn't fit just right - you can't lock it in place - file down the bottom of the side pins just a tiny bit.
