Hi,

Just received NOS 1999 densitometer - never used, with invoices, manual, box, etc. There were no calibration strips included, but I checked it against Stouffer T2115 wedge and print density reference tile provided within RH Designs calibration kit. Here are the results:

1. 0.00
2. 0.12
3. 0.28
4. 0.44
5. 0.58
6. 0.72
7. 0.88
8. 1.01
9. 1.14
10. 1.29
11. 1.44
12. 1.59
13. 1.74
14. 1.90
15. 2.04
16. 2.18
17. 2.33
18. 2.47
19. 2.61
20. 2.77
21. 2.93

Paper Base - 0.00
D=0.04 - 0.07
D=90% - 1.95
D.max - 2.25

Do you think the results are OK? In case of transmission they look quite consistent and precise, but I'm worried about reflection - if I zeroed the meter on paper base tile, I should get exactly 0.04 on the 0.04 tile, but I got 0.07 - more than 0.02 tolerance mentioned in the specs in the manual.

Do you have the manual? Usually densitometers are calibrated with a dense patch around log 2.0 to 3.0, or just use any of the steps on a calibrated wedge in the 2 to 3 range.

Yes, the TRD-2 comes with two calibration checkers (one for transmission, one for reflection) each with four patches. You can’t calibrate the machine if it goes out of whack though (or maybe you can if you know what to do inside the unit). Luckily mine hasn’t drifted at all in the 12 years I’ve had it.
