I am thinking of purchasing new 11x14 holders for my Wisner 11x14. But the Tachihara are so expensive. I mean they re gorgeous and wonderful, But the price is shocking. Why are they so expensive ? are they worth the price?

I made a simple 11X14 film holder years ago and documented it in DIY
Black Matt Board to any size, no complication
Double stick tape, with clear plastic a bit thicker than film to fit the Dims outside
Another piece of same tape and same plastic overlapping the first rail for film containment
Covered with Black Gaff Tape
No DS need on my setup
Made it twice, first was 10X16 with 2 pieces of 8X10
I prefer 11X14
It works very smoothly
Dark Slide could be stacked

I had some Tachihara 11x14 holders for a while. They were nicely made, but the septum seemed spring-loaded, requiring downward pressure on the film during insertion. The required combination action of threading such a large and floppy sheet of film under the retaining flanges in the dark and sliding the film in while exerting downward pressure made loading a royal pain. I sold the Tachiharas and now have a mix of Fidelity and S&S holders in that size.

How about this as an alternative? https://www.ebay.com/itm/325347232871?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=325347232871&targetid=1263094005306&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=1027744&poi=&campaignid=14859008593&mkgroupid=130497710760&rlsatarget=pla-1263094005306&abcId=9300678&merchantid=6296724&gclid=Cj0KCQjwnvOaBhDTARIsAJf8eVNQ1tWVnahKJ-z1KirrDwOaMAlT3O1uSyfsWBGRKptzoyOlkjlN-eAaAv0HEALw_wcB
I am not sure of the dimensions of the holders or the light leak situation. It is too experimental. I bought two wooded before and found the raised rail to hold the unit in place as in the wrong spot Still not yet fixed I would not sell becausee it is so wrong That is when I stopped buying unknown manufacturer. They get the dimensions wrong and then the holders will not fit or will fail or the film plane is not aligned in focus.

If you got the money honey and the time
I installed my simple and cheap DIY into free 12X15" Copy Camera holders. of course I used the free camera too
It is heavy as can be, but very good for some things

Good luck! :)

I also use Chamonix 11x14 holders. Over the past maybe three years I have shot maybe 50 negatives with them with zero problems. The dark slides seemed a bit firmer/tighter when compared to my Chamonix whole plate holders, but I think it is because of the larger size of the 11x14 dark slides. I also can recommend them 100% without reservations.

I bought them Seller on Ebay in Japan, I paid the price and then he shipped, Using DHL in Japan. But then Japanese Customs held the five holders and DHL asked me to give DHL my PASSPORT because Japanese customs would not let them be exported unless I produced my Passport. I thought this unreasonable. First NO ONE gets a copyof my passport.Second Especially nameless people at DHL. Thirdly, I purchased from Japan many times and never had this event of Japanese customs holding the goods from export until the foreign buyer gave their passport. Never had Japanese customs hold any export. The seller showed me the Japanese customs communications ( in Japanese and then I applied google translate) but they hand never had this happen before.
Have you had Japanese Customs made such a demand?
What do you think of this?
Is this PHISHING?
I do know DHL really did contact me for my passport That I did verify as it being DHL. But I will not give my passport for this
I also checked the Japanese customs website for exports and found no requirement for me to be so specifically identified. I have given my full name and home address already

I live in Japan. For large value sales (1 million yen and more), Japan Customs has called me to confirm a few details like the consignee's name and address, the items in the package, etc. But they have never asked for any documents. I suggest you call DHL in your country and ask them. If DHL is close to you, a personal visit is better.

It was Japanese Customs who wanted my passport and the seller's passport too, We unwound the transaction. Real bummer. But no harm done Just a crazy unexplained surprise. I have five holders anyway So they will have to do.
