Hi There

Does anyone know what the difference between an 'X View' Camera and a 'Super View' Camera?

Many Thanks for your help.

Hi, Ursula. These appear to be marketing terms or model designations. Sinar, in fact, has an "X" model, a 4x5 monorail design. Depending on the context, "Super" might also refer to what is called "Ultra Large Format" or ULF - usually considered to be something larger than 8x10.

I think the "X" is the one I sold when I got divorced and the "Super" is the next one I'll buy!

What is the context of your question: brand, size, etc.

Another first time poster asking an equally vague/strange question such as the one posted a few weeks back requesting, "tell me all there is to "no" about photography!"

http://www.largeformatphotography.info/lfforum/topic/505463.html

Hmmmm! If it smells like fish... it PROBABLY IS fish!

While we're at it... here's another one...

http://www.largeformatphotography.info/lfforum/topic/505531.html

So far... they're all one line questions from first and only time posters... no responses back to answers from any of the original posters. You'd think they'd have better things to do than waste everyone's time!

And, if the questions ARE legitimate.... I'll apologize in advance! But, I doubt they're serious!

Cheers to all legitimate posters and responders!

Henry, if they are trolls then why would they ask such vague questions? I mean there is no punch line here. Take it from me, if I'm going to troll, I'm going to ask a zinger...

This is a link to a feature comparison of the Sinar X and P2 view cameras.

I don't know what you mean by the term "Super View". If it's from a website, ad or post, could you provide more details so we can place the term in its context.

Frank,

Perhaps, you're right... it isn't a typical troll type of question. However, as I said, 3 very similar types of questions in the last short while seems odd (to me.) I could be mistaken but I've never seen such vague questions on this site before.

Anyway, it's just a feeling... :)

Perhaps, I shouldn't have stated what I was sensing... but no harm, no foul! :)

Cheers

Thank you all for your help. I apologise if it seemed vague but I was set a task to find the difference between the two and so that was why I asked the question I asked!

For those of you who asked why so many vague questions, I fear paranoia! Do people really ask questions like "does anyone know the difference between X View and Super View Camera's?" for a laugh!!!??? I certainly wouldn't find it funny!

Thank you all for your efforts, however I managed to find the answer to my question from a Camera Supplier. And in case any of you are interested!

'The x-view and the super HAD refer to the ccd chips used inside the camera. The X-View are the better of the chips hence slightly more expensive in some units.

Thanks Again
Ursula

Now, if I could only find that damn chip in my view camera. I always knew that Ansel shot his pictures with a digital camera!
Ursula, you picked the wrong forum to ask that question! People here use cameras that have not changed much in that past 100 years - no CCDs, nothing automated - not even an exposure meter built in - what you were refering as "View Camera" has nothing to do with our view cameras and the question you asked was wrong. View Cameras do NOT have any electronics in them - obviously you were looking for an answer that related to Movie Cameras in some way.

"LOL, of course you can flirt on this forum. All flirters welcome."

I use flirters sometimes, maybe a no. 25 red flirter or a yellow flirter...

While not the case here, I suspect many of the past "less knowlegeable" questions come from school kids who are given an assignment on photography and told to "look it up on the web."

Steve, Ted... you guys are shameless...

"All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong? "
[Lennon/McCartney. Eleanor Rigby. 1966.]

Perhaps a few of them are here!

You must stay away from polarizing flirters if the relationship is to stand a chance.

Who ever thought that was possible?

"When I get older losing my hair
many years from now
will you still be sending me a valentine
birthday greeting, bottle of wine
If I'd been out till quarter to three
would you lock the door
Will you still need me
Will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four "
[Lennon/McCartney. When I'm 64. 1966]

Don't you remember buying the Lonely Hearts Club Band album?

I remember very clearly riding the school bus home one day my high school junior year when a good friend grabbed me and said I had to hear this new Beatles album. At that time I thought nothing could ever surpass Rubber Soul, but I went home with him anyway. After spending a good deal of time just examining the cover of Sgt. Pepper's, he played it for me. It is curious that I can't remember something someone said to me yesterday, but I can remember that moment so perfectly.

Yellow Submarine was one of the first songs I learned how to play on the alto sax. Of course my version sounded like a goose getting an enema. Come to think of it the original version sounded like a goose getting an enema.

This has turned into such an interesting thread I figured better add my 2-cents ;-)

Wow John, 2 cents and a goose enema... all in the same post. I'll probably have nightmares tonight. Thanks!

Hello Boys

No I haven't been scared off, just finished work at 5.30pm (GMT) but it's now 9.45am (GMT) so I have had the joy of reading all your comments this morning!

I remember getting the school bus home listening to Madonna, so I guess you guys are old enough to be my Dad?

Goose getting an Enema!!!!!????????? Curiously I would like to know how would you, actually, know what that sounds like?

I do however fear this discussion has gone miles away from my original question. Apologises for the interruption from your normal discussions.

Take Care Boys!!!!!!

"Does anyone know what the difference between an 'X View' Camera and a 'Super View' Camera?"

Ursula - I noticed where you put the quotes in your question -- and figured you weren't talking about "view cameras" and probably were asking about viewfinders. I found examples of Panasonic and Sony video cameras with both "X view" and "SuperView" talking about their viewer and/or their zoom capability. I also found Yashica "Electro X View" and "super view" viewfinders in 35mm cameras; and newer digital cameras refering to the size of the LCD screen using those terms. Those are outside the view of this forum. But sorry you you got goosed by members here.

If you ever have a question about real View Cameras (Those big cameras with bellows that use rectangular sheet film holders instead of roll film) we would be glad to help - just please be specific with model numbers etc.

Hi Ursula,

I apologize for my faux-pas. Of course you are a girl and one that can hold her own with us "old farts". Congratulations on your great sense of humor - most people would have been disgusted by now and just turned their back on us and our old-fashioned view cameras.

If you are into photography you should indeed try Large Format - the best digital cameras do not even come close to these odd-looking monsters that we schlepp around.

Try it - you will love it.

"Take Care Boys!!!!!! Ursula xx"

My congratulations to Juergen, Steve, Terrence, and the rest of us who got (as far as I could tell) the first on-line kisses in the history of this forum. And it only took how many years?

Ursula, we less than three you!

Mark, what does "Ursula, we less than three you! " mean............. if it is a typo I still can't work it out!

Ursula- Sorry, it's a computer thing- I've been corrupted by my high school students. "Less than three" in some type fonts makes a little heart: <3 so it's a casual way of saying "we love you!" (hey, you started it with the "xx" stuff...)

Which also (sort of) explains why I "more than four" dust spots on my negatives. Language is evolving pretty rapidly these days. Used to be just keeping up with the TLA's.

Forget the Beatles... Akon seems mroe appropriate:

"Lonely I'm so lonely,

I have nobody,

To call my owwnnn

Im so lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely

I have nobody,

To call my owwnnn

Im so lonely"

What more can I say... other than "Ursula... you're probably laughing your a$$ off about these guys all the way home to your dear husband".

'Less than three' <3 back at you all!
