A friend of mine has this lens and I am trying to track down more information on this lens to help with the research.

I thought someone here may be able to shed some light on this lens.

Here is the link to the lens: https://www.wetplatedreams.com/early-derogy-petzval-300mm-f4

Also, if anyone knows of a resource to learn about the history of the Derogy lenses, please let me know.

Thank you

Larry

There's a nice booklet about Derogy:
http://www.lereveedition.com/derogy-a-dessoudex.html
don't have it, so can't tell whether your lens is in...

There is no engraving on this lens!

Derogy was a company that loved to cover the brass sleeve with English/French text and, when he was a mere assistent under Wallet and Hermagis, they had lots of brass engravings too!

My personal feeling about this is that it is not a genuine product from Derogy. It looks like one of the larger lenses from the slower (F4) Petzval Series but everyone made these sized lenses towards the end of the 19th C. I found this advert years (?) ago and wasn’t convinced then either.

Information about lens diameter and iris construction - rather than the “sellers photos” might reveal more about it’s origin.
