View Full Version : Yet another ULF Camera and cart

Last weekend I joined the world of ULF with my latest project. I was given this copy camera body over 20 years ago from a customer back in my camera sales days - It has moved houses with me and sat in the basement awaiting orders all this time. In the past few years I acquired the other needed parts - lenses and a couple film holders and these past few months spent building a working back and other modification to make a functional 11x14 system.
As it's too large for one person to reasonably move by itself, I also need a cart / platform. I ended up building a scissor lift style attachment to mount it to a modified hand-cart. Currently it is made out of cheap 3/4 plywood as a proof of concept, but plan to rebuild with something a bit nicer once I get the measurements worked out a bit better in practice.

That is an excellent idea. Can't wait to see how it evolves.

Wow that looks great!

I've been thinking for awhile (a long while) about doing something similar...but maybe using larger diameter wheels (like lightweight ones from a road bike) which might allow for moving over rough terrain. Also thinking I might make this more like a "rickshaw," which I would pull behind me, perhaps attached to my waist with a belt of some sort.

At any rate...congrats - and please keep us in the loop!

Brilliant. Its good to see things being put to use especially after sitting so long. Have fun.

I found out after building mine, photos posted elsewhere, it IS a Rickshaw if pulled and a push cart if...

I am going to bolt my 14X17 Copy Camera down on the bed, just like the Deardorff Studio

I really hate flat tires, these won't I HOPE

Mr. Can those wheels look perfect - and thanx for the link! I've actually promised my dear wife that I'll rehab our old Garden Way cart sometime soon - and am thinking that these wheels could do "double duty" in a pinch! (or with a wrench )

Indeed - those wheels look great!
I think with the success of the scissor lift, I may move on to ver 2.0 rapidly with the addition of some larger wheels. Love the rickshaw concept!
And thanks to all you for the encouragement and inspiration.
Matt

These are great ideas. I can't wait to see all of this. As a 14x17 shooter it is interesting.

Any bike wheel bearing needs oiling

I mounted the 5/8" threaded axle (https://www.amazon.com/Threaded-Plated-Thread-Length-Threads/dp/B00HS7ZI1E/ref=sr_1_9?crid=1EYIO2QR8A8U2&keywords=5%2F8+threaded+rod&qid=1654375059&sprefix=5%2F8-+threaded+rod%2Caps%2C87&sr=8-9) in these pillow blocks (https://www.amazon.com/Eowpower-Pieces-UCP202-10-Bearing-Diameter/dp/B07MVW6VWZ/ref=rvi_sccl_2/142-4536632-4360940?pd_rd_w=atWd7&content-id=amzn1.sym.f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_p=f5690a4d-f2bb-45d9-9d1b-736fee412437&pf_rd_r=7EYF5MTHRWEK63B6D6E7&pd_rd_wg=LYD8f&pd_rd_r=e0624958-4260-4dbb-a9be-1530400b9053&pd_rd_i=B07MVW6VWZ&psc=1) for better rolling and sturdy alignment

I used these eye hooks (https://www.amazon.com/QWORK-Threaded-Eyebolts-Stailess-Steel/dp/B0892FLLCF/ref=pd_rhf_ee_s_rp_c_sccl_1_1/142-4536632-4360940?pd_rd_w=GJJym&content-id=amzn1.sym.eb305fa7-34bf-42db-ae8a-a5c88b5ed17e&pf_rd_p=eb305fa7-34bf-42db-ae8a-a5c88b5ed17e&pf_rd_r=3FQ1SV6SBYE0CY7X9WY1&pd_rd_wg=1um1r&pd_rd_r=a5996b08-3aee-44b0-9d76-a33db2569894&pd_rd_i=B0892FLLCF&th=1)' to mount the pillow blocks which also give 4 tie downs

They have drip oiling with covers

I used these collets (https://www.amazon.com/AZSSMUK-Stainless-Steel-Collars-4-Packed/dp/B07GSW5288/ref=pd_rhf_ee_s_rp_c_sccl_1_4/142-4536632-4360940?pd_rd_w=UTRqG&content-id=amzn1.sym.eb305fa7-34bf-42db-ae8a-a5c88b5ed17e&pf_rd_p=eb305fa7-34bf-42db-ae8a-a5c88b5ed17e&pf_rd_r=QTE7394T6XEW8JTDDAE7&pd_rd_wg=3Aobs&pd_rd_r=e49d01c2-1049-4cc4-b57c-549d16077526&pd_rd_i=B07GSW5288&th=1) to keep the wheels on with a https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PMK7PMR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1at ends

The 2 wheels (https://www.amazon.com/Lapp-Wheels-Turf-Style-Various-Diameter/dp/B07S24TMCV/ref=pd_sbs_sccl_4_2/142-4536632-4360940?pd_rd_w=qwImP&content-id=amzn1.sym.f20cd814-1d01-49fb-93a8-83020525ea50&pf_rd_p=f20cd814-1d01-49fb-93a8-83020525ea50&pf_rd_r=VX4VSAR3DM8VF74K52CA&pd_rd_wg=sFzbu&pd_rd_r=632156fd-ce36-45a5-a24f-9b42637787db&pd_rd_i=B07S24TMCV&th=1) are rated 150lbs each
