I have a Epson V850 Pro - and use both the Epson software and Silverfast software. I have tried to start up the scanner after several months of non use, all cables and plugs are in correctly, computer on, the two scanner locks are unlocked. I press the start button and the indicator light flashes green - the scanner goes through two short start up cycles then stops, and the indicator light stats flashing red.

I recall from previous use that when the scanner went through it's start up cycle the "sensor gizmo" in the base of the machine travelled the full length of the scanner before stopping and then scanning could start.

I have tried to look through the Epson web site for support - but end up going in circles... if anyone has had similar experience or can make any suggestions I would be most grateful !

Thank you
Peter

I'd uninstall both apps and just install Epsonscan.

Did you change Windows software? Check the V850 manual. There are lots of possible reasons and solutions indicated there.

Alan - thank you for your suggestion. I have removed all Apps, and reloaded Epson Scan and still no luck. The scanner its self does not seem to be going through its start up cycle correctly. Appears that the scanner carriage is only moving an inch or so on start up, where as, it normally move up and down the full length of the scanner when started on previous occasions...

Thank you
Peter

Sorry it's still no working. I guess you'll need to call Epson service. Is it still under warranty? Some credit cards extend one-year warranties automatically by one year.

Hello Alan,

I took the scanner to the local Epson agent, turned out that the issue was a miniscule piece of debris was stuck in the socket for the data cable. This appears to have been the cause of the fault. All working correctly - but clearly the equipment is very sensitive to poor contacts!

Thanks again for your suggestions.

That's interesting. I'm glad you got it fixed.
