Anyone try to print a big panorama on the Canon pro-1000?
I'm trying to do a 16x46" from a piece of paper cut from a roll.
I followed this guy's video, but the printer would take the paper, and said it couldn't verify the paper size.

He's printing longer than the software allows, but he's using a 12" wide paper, whereas mine is 17" wide.

Any hints or tricks?

Thanks

Not at all sure this will work because I have an HP printer. But I get that "could not verify paper size" message too when I load a sheet but the printer is set up for a roll, which is the default. Does the Canon printer driver have a setting for roll vs. sheet? The video doesn't really address that. On my HP printer I have to specify whether I'm printing on a roll or a sheet.

Just curious, does it automatically know the width of the roll or do you have to tell it?

It doesn't do rolls, so I have to cut a long piece from a roll.
For this size I have to create a custom paper size in the printer settings, then apply that prior to printing.

Ari,

Are you printing from Lightroom? There are a lot of limitations if you do. If you are using a Canon printer you are really handicapping yourself if you don't use Canon's Professional Print and Layout (https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/explore/ppl-software). I have a roll printer so I have never tried this on the PRO-1000 (which I also have) however in Professional Print and Layout you can make any size you want. If you want to get the most out of that printer I highly recommend learning to use their software.

Thanks, Joshua.
I just re-installed PPL, it was acting up in LR and it's still not showing up at all in PS.
I'm going to try again tomorrow, and if necessary, I'll attach some screen shots.
To be honest, I found that prints looked slightly different when printing from PPL, and I much preferred printing from Photoshop.
But I'll try PPL again, if only for this print size.

Using Canon PPL worked! The printer just grabbed the paper and off it went.
So now I have an option for printing 17x50" panos (actual paper size is 17x 47.24").
Thanks for all your help!

Good news!

Indeed. I'm even more impressed by this winter now, and this opens a lot more possibilities that I previously didn't think were options.

Glad it worked. There are some tutorials out there that really show you how to utilize Professional Print and Layout. It has features that were usually only found in RIP software. As for it looking differently, there should be no difference in the appearance of your photograph. I would double check to make sure all of your settings were the same, not just the profile you used. You can also use Professional Print and Layout as a standalone software without Lightroom or Photoshop.

Thanks again, Joshua.
I'm not sure why I got different-looking prints, but that was early on in my Canon printer experience. So most likely user error.
The standalone doesn't work for me as it will only import jpgs. It works well in Lightroom, which is how I managed this pano.
I installed it into Photoshop, but it's now disappeared, and I can't re-install.
I'll call Canon next slow day. They were very helpful in setting up the printer software.

This topic reminds me that I've got some rolls of 20" Kentmere RC paper waiting to be used. A 20x100" print would be impressive.

A well-printed pano is quite impressive!
