I've met Eric a number of times at the local camera shows, he's a nice guy. Bought a lot more stuff from him than I ever sold to him. He has a day job, this is a hobby, and he seems to have gotten into it specifically to pursue his search for the perfect camera. His first was a fixed focus point&shoot 8x10 for a SA120 IIRC, that was bolted together with slotted tracks, with foamcore (?) bellows. He used to have a pic of it on his photography website.

I would have no problem buying from him again, if I weren't a budding machinist myself. You never know what you can or can't make until you try.

In my wildest dreams I would have a shop like this...and another of equivalent capabilities for wood - but then I wonder if, in the quest for the "perfect camera," I might get so caught up in this that I'd cease to make photographs? Hmmm...

At any rate...nice to know that he's a bit less than two hours drive from where I live - and I just might pay him a visit!

Hi Bob, while in theory we can weld stainless steel the reality is I dont have practice doing with our stick or mig welders.

I do have a lot of experience brazing copper, and some stainless using silver solder which is likely strong enough for a print washer.

That said, I'd be curious to see your potential plans because you may not need any welding at all. I like to use laser or waterjet cut sheet that is then folded into shape, or flat pack techniques where the items are designed to slot together and are collapsible for storage.
