E-6 capacity / min volume

I wonder if 250 ml of E-6 chemistry would be sufficient to develop 10 sheets of 4x5" in a Jobo Expert drum #3010 capacity wise? I know Jobo lists min volume for the 3010 Expert drum at 210 ml. Thanks

You don’t say which kit you’re using — do read the manual because different manufacturers write different capacities, BUT in general I would say NO, you need 30 mL per sheet minimum, so 300 mL for 10.

Might be OK. I would definitely use 1 shot. I would be careful to make sure to adequately fix too. E6 is so picky, 1st developer time, temperature, etc. I buy Fuji E6 in bulk from Unique Photo, I use more than required and toss it. You need to spend about 400 bucks up front with the starters etc. The fixer is universal to E6 and C41. Unopened concentrates last a long time.

I suspect it would work. No guarantees.

Jobo has spoken - 210 ml, but this is the min volume to cover the film evenly (to my understanding at least), however it sure is not enough in terms of capacity. I think I will use 330 ml per batch, so that I can get 30 sheets out of one liter.

The X6 5 l kit from Fuji Hunt (E-6) goes for around 100 eur here, so quite a bit cheaper. I'm not sure I would invest 400 bucks :eek:

Given how finicky E6 can be sometimes I’d stick to the 30 mL min per sheet even though 24 mL might work, perhaps with a bit extra time as it will get exhausted somewhat faster. Or you can use 240 mL and only process 8 sheets if you want to be economical.

Fuji’s manual doesn’t talk about single use — in their 5L kit they explain using nominal times for the first 118 4x5 sheets and then to use longer times up to 175 sheets. Of course this is more for a lab processor approach where the full 5L soup is used.

For for the 5L kit, 118 sheets would be 42 mL/sheet and 175 would be 29 mL/sheet. That would seem to indicate that the Fuji kit wants more than 30 mL / sheet to maintain standard times. However, given that E6 is supposed to be a standard formula I’d stick with 30 mL/sheet — that’s what I’ve always used, and what’s in other manufacturer’s manuals.

I found a Jobo datasheet for expert drums. It states 33mL/ 4x5 sheet for both C41 and E6 in a 3010 drum. So 330mL will hit that mark perfectly.

Yes, 250ml of chemistry for 10 pcs of 4x5 sheets is sufficient. I also develop five 8x10 sheets in Jobo 3005 drum using 500ml of chemistry (100ml per sheet). I use chemistry as one shot and get excellent results with both Tetenal 3-Bath and Fujihunt 6-bath processes. I want to have same ml per area for both 4x5 and 8x10 to maintain consistent results.
