67 mm Push-on Lens Cap

Hi Folks,

Does anybody have a spare push-on lens cap for 67mm filter size. I bought lens without caps so I am looking for any. E**y does not offer it.

I'm disappointed to learn Kaiser doesn't make a push on in 67 mm sold at B&H. Perhaps Kaiser does, but you'll have to find it somewhere else.

Schneider makes a 68 mm push-on! Darn 1 mm off.

Should be a 70mm cap for a 67mm filter. I am just about to buy one at Calumet.

Kaiser makes a push-on cap @ 70 mm. Round 8 bucks.

67mm is the filter size. The push-on cap is always 2 to 3 mm larger in diameter then the screw-in size.

If it's a Schneider lens you can buy an original cap from Schneider, just call and tell them what lens you have and they'll tell you what cap to buy. Costs about $10 for the smaller caps and $15 or so for the larger ones. For some unknown reason I've always liked having the lens manufacturer's cap when I can get it. It drives me crazy to buy a used lens that has a Tamron or something cap on it.

Unfortunately, the prices for the replacement Schneider caps has gone up. The "small" sizes are now $11.95 and the "large" sizes are now $23.95. Doubly unfortunate is the 70mm size Peter needs is the smallest of the "large" sizes. So, a new 70mm Schneider cap is going to cost $23.95.

Nikon makes some very nice push-on caps and they are very reasonably priced. I like these caps because they fit well and are made from thicker plastic than most other brands. You can probably order one from any authorized Nikon dealer. B&H usually stocks replacement Nikon caps, but for some reason doesn't have the 70mm size listed on their web site. Just to give you an idea of the price, B&H has the 60mm Nikon cap listed at $8.95 and the 80mm Nikon cap listed at $9.95.

If your lens is a Rodenstock, be thankful it didn't come with the original caps. Rodenstock makes the flimsiest caps I have ever seen. I NEVER carry my Rodenstock lenses with their original caps. I immediately replace them with sturdier caps (usually Nikon, or Schneider if I happen to have an extra in the right size).

The Kasier caps are cheap and come in a huge range of sizes, but I've never liked the way they fit, They are actually too tight. All the OEM caps have either ridges or grooves spaced around the inside perimeter of the cap to allow air to escape when installing/removing it. The Kaiser caps lack this feature. So, they form an air tight seal that makes them hard to install and remove. You need to "burp" them when putting them on and they form a suction when trying to remove them. I do have Kaiser caps for some of my older lenses that require odd sized caps. They are certainly better than nothing, but given the choice, I'll take a Nikon cap any day.
