I just bought an Epson 9800 and the first prints were beyond my expectations.
On the contrary the paper format set up is elementary. I could not print on a 42 inch roll paper and had to replace it with a 44 inch!! The question is: is there a software that deals with the paper formats, places several pictures on a roll and in a que and leaves the printer use its own profiles for the print?

Actually what you are describing is not a rip but a image processing and layout program. A rip is far more involved and utilizes other profiles and can be expensive. I use Imageprint which is a fullblown RIP.

Q Image should do what you want it to.

qimage does an excellent job, and is much cheaper than buying a full feature RIP www.ddisoftware.com/qimage/ (http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage/)

. You only use it for layout and printing... you can't control the inkset as you can in most RIPs

You can print with any width paper. You did not have to replace the 42-inch paper with 44-inch paper.

In the printer control menu, select "paper."

Under paper select "roll."

Under "paper size" scroll all the way to the bottom and select "User Defined."

Enter the paper width as 4200.

Enter the paper height (really length) for whatever length print and add about 1-inch.

Under "Paper Size Name" give the format a name like "42 x 55."

Save the setup.

The next time you want to use that size, scroll down to the bottom, and below User Defined will be a dashed line - 42 x 55 will appear under that line. Simply select that as your paper size and you can print on 42-inch wide paper up to 55 inches long. Obviously, if you had set the 55 as another number, that will be the maximum length you can print. The height tells the printer where to cut the paper.
