Has anybody succeeded in getting a scan (from 120 roll film) longer than about 6x9 cm on a Nikon 8000ED with Vuescan (or any other scanner software)?

Have I made a mistake in assuming I can scan the full aperture of the 120 roll film holder (again, the Nikon 8000ED) by setting the Vuescan crop dimensions to values greater than 9cm?

I set (or believe that I am) for an image area of (roughly) 56 mm by 177 mm (approx. the image area I want to capture), the Vuescan status line indicates these dimensions and then produces a scan of ~6x9 cm.

Have I run up against a hardware limitation here?

New scanner (used), new software, newbie (old brain).

Ask this question in the Yahoo forum "Coolscan8000-9000". I seem to remember some discussion of the issue there a couple of months back.

Thanks Kirk

Seems initially I joined the wrong group... since rectified.

Yes, it seems the scanner is hardware limited to 6x9. Oh well.

I'm just scanning 6x6 but was looking for the easy way out in rapidly scanning a whole strip for proofing purposes.

Now I'm off to fight in the Vuescan frame offset/spacing wars.

I was interested in that too but had not had the time to really look into it.

Hi. I scan 612 and 617 on a Nikon 9000 with Vuescan. Only way to do it in my experience is to do multiple scans and stitch. Because the there is no edge distortion warping of the image is not necessary, so I tell the software (Panorama Factory in my case) that I am using a 1000mm lens and the results are excellent. Only problem is that the software needs more memory than Win32 can address for 4000 dpi scans so I have to downsample, but I am contemplating Win64.
