last time i bought a gallon jug like that for my darkroom, the jug was biodegradable and leaked all over the place before i could use it all. Big mess, and that was only a single jug.

Water, the bottles and recycling varies throughout our 50 states
Almost no leakers from Kroger
Walmart makes them leak by how they shelve them
It is all delivered to my porch
$1 a gallon is way cheaper than distilling at home
What is recycling anyway...
Here we fill old coal mines

When I saw the title of the thread I thought of something else. :D

I thought I was over-prepared with 20 gallons of distilled water in my darkroom, at $1 its easy to buy a lot so you don't have to go back out (hate going to stores, and no delivery at my place--too far from civilization.)
My limit has been 20 one gallon bottles of distilled water. Walmart bottles are indeed susceptible to leaking. Stop & Shop bottles never leaked in my experience. I have yet to check out Whole Foods bottles of distilled water.

One of the nice things about living in the N.W. Oregon, we have excellent water. I've never had to worry about minerals, etc., in the water.
I usually keep distilled water on hand - mostly for my espresso machine though! I do mix the C-41 and E-6 chemicals with distilled. Everything else is from the tap (well).
The gallon jugs from Wal-Mart have never leaked for me.

I have a nice RO system dedicated for my darkroom. I have some nice 1 gallon bottles I've scrounged. I keep about 5 gallons racked off. Letting the water sit for a bit lets some of the air come out. My RO tank holds something like 6 gallons, it's nice water, not distilled but gets all the minerals out. Nice having pure water on tap.

Perhaps you need a rainfall water tower/container that holds 500+ gallons with a filter that feeds your darkroom. My city water is near perfect but I run it through a Britta filter to remove chlorine and any solids for mixing developers and fixer.

Next summer hopefully
Install gutter on outbuilding
Find new big storage tank
etc
I should be digging a storm shelter in clay above a coal mine

Walmart's product, at least here, says "for distilled water uses." The Arrowhead brand I purchase instead says "prepared by steam distillation." Don't know about Kroger. I suspect Walmart sells RO stuff. :)
That's actually why I use it for coffee. Perfectly distilled water isn't good for my machine, and I usually add a dash of tap when filling it up for some extra minerals. As for my color chems, haven't had any issues personally using it. I suppose I could check with a multimeter to see how resistive it is? Since perfectly distilled water is non-conductive right?

Kroger is Steam Distilled
I use it for coffee, microwaved in Pyrex 150 seconds
I buy Starbucks Italian Dark Roast by the sealed case
Grind it into dust with Braun grinder in 30 seconds
Then 30 seconds by hand Aero-Press
Cheapest and best, 1 cup in morning
Jacks me up!
