Interesting that it took Lincoln Kirstein (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Kirstein) and MOMA curator John Szarkowski (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Szarkowski) to rediscover her. Looks like there are two books of her photographs and a biography. This article in something called The French Quarter Journal offers an interesting slice of her life in New Orleans and several of her photographs: The Gay Lens: Frances Benjamin Johnston and Pops Whitesell (https://www.frenchquarterjournal.com/archives/the-gay-lens-frances-benjamin-johnston-and-pops-whitesell)
