This last weekend I made some sample shots with the Fuji UM-MA xray film.
It is a blue and green sensitive xray film with a blue layer carier.
Handling and developing under red safe light is possible.
I used 18x24cm sheets, in 8x10" it is not available in continental Europe.
Three different developers were used:
Adox Silvermax, Adox FX-39 II and the Wehner Developer
I made only table tops because of the cloudy and rainy weather.

I used the film with ISO 80.

The first were taken with a Schneider G-Claron 9/210mm (Dagor Type), Silvermax developer, 1+24, 8 min.
The negatives are a little bid under exposed but the reason were that my two flashlights are too small for f/22

The second sample were made with the wonderful Steinheil Orthostigmat 4.5/210mm. A very fast six element wideangle lens with 85-90° angle of view. A huge piece of lens.
The high speed of the lens makes it much easier to focus.
The picture shows only partiell sharpness because I used only f/11 for to get correct exposed negatives.
Here I used the Adox FX-39 II developer, a derivate of the well known Tetenal Neofin Red, I like this developer and it is my favorite for largeformat films. 1+9, 8min.

The last sample were made with the Orthostigmat as well but now I used two flash lights with 400WS and with the reflectors only, this gave the picture a higher brilliance/contrast and I can use f/32
The Klaus Wehner Developer were in use, 7.5+7.5+270ml for two sheets 18x24cm, 11 min.
The Wehner Developer ist a successor of the famous AGFA Atomal which is not available since a long time, the Adox Atomal is a complete different formular and has nothing to do with the original.
Klaus composed a new kind of developer, a child of our time with less poison ingredients, a very good durabillity and the characteristics of the old style Atomal.
I use this developer for all 35 and 120mm film, sometimes for large format as well.

Maybe my post helps you to start with xray film too. Use only films for mammographic because this once are only one side coated, the other films are coated from both sides.
A pack with 100 sheets in 18x24cm costs around 60 Euros.

Very friendly and helpful and they sell to private customers.
They have a lot of different films in stock.
When you need other sizes they offer a cutting service.

I've been using double, and single-sided x-ray for about 15 years, on and off. Nice stuff for the right subject. D-23 1+3.
