That does look rather forlorn, doesn't it? Not to get all anthropomorphic but I know the feeling.

Around here, people tend to abandon shopping carts in odd places. They look sad and out of place where they are, as though they long to be back in their supermarket where at least they get a little attention. I have thought from time to time that it might make an interesting project to start documenting them where they sit. Not the best subject for LF perhaps, so I put my old Pentax into the center console of my car so I'd be ready the next time I saw one. This seemed to have made them all become very shy.

The Pentax is still there, and I'm waiting for them to come out of the shrubberies or wherever it is they are hiding so that I can continue (begin) my project.

...the act or an instance of placing two or more things side by side often to compare or contrast or to create an interesting effect.

Three examples I pulled from images shown before

For two of them, the question being, is a shadow a 'thing' that can be juxtaposed?
And for the third image, is a human form a 'thing' to contrast with a stone abstract form(s)?

The Yosemite image is questionable. But the form of the absence of light contrasted with the organic form representing the absence of life is a more interesting possibility -- a contrast of absences, rather than opposites.
